As the picture above shows, Theodore Roosevelt was the 26 president of the United States. He came into command following the assassination of William McKinley. He served two terms as a republican and was the youngest president in the nation's history. He used the square deal to fix the problems in the United States and he did a good job of it. He was really the base for the progressive era. During Roosevelt's presidency he used the "big stick diplomacy" to display his thoughts on foreign policies, he said "Speak softly and carry a big stick." He was a major player in American Imperialism which was the building of an empire based on the idea of superiority and dominance over other nations. He organized an international police system to preserve peace and order, and protect American interests. This was part of his imperial ideas of trying to have more control of foreign countries. In his corollary to the Monroe Doctrine he stated that the United States would intervene in conflicts between European and Latin American countries to enforce legitimate claims of European powers. The building of the Panama Canal under Roosevelt allowed the United States to become the most powerful country in the world and improve their trade with other countries. Theodore also did other things to contribute to imperialism such as ending the Russo-Japanese War and the Algeircas Conference which resolved the First Moroccan Crisis between European countries. All of these things that Roosevelt helped with American Imperialism and the outcome of it was great because America became the most powerful country in the world.
